  1. WEATHER CONDITIONS AND FORECAST
The New Bedford Yacht Club Foundation has a new weather station located on the end of the NBYC dock which gives current conditions as well as forecasts out one week. If you want up to the minute forecasts of wind velocity and direction, barometric pressure, precipitation potential and temperature, go to NBYCF.org and click on the weather button on the home page.
  2. During the last week of sailing school several NBYC members stepped up and took some sailing school students out to experience sailing on a larger boat. A bunch of students experienced several hours out on Buzzards Bay and will remember the experience. Thanks to Doug Curtiss, Geoff Jenkins, Kevin Horst, Chris Fairfax, Paul Adam, John Seymour and Don Watson. It was difficult to say who had more fun, the
    students or the skippers.
  3. On August 19 on a beautiful summer evening, over 150 guests enjoyed a delicious meal and danced to the sound of The Flying Wedge band. Seated under the beautiful new NBYC Sperry tent, the Club staff called all hands on deck and served all 154 places in a timely manner. Commodore Van Colen was there as well as Past Commodore Joe Nauman who supported the acquisition of the Club Sonar fleet which is jointly owned by NBYC and the NBYC Foundation. These Sonars are a perfect example of the synergy that happens when the two organizations work together. NBYC member Paul Adam was awarded the Presidents Cup for service above and beyond supporting one-design sailing and for taking out so many
junior sailors. After dinner, many of the guests kept the dance floor full until the 11 PM shut down. Thank you to new member and Flying Wedge band member Bradley van Brunt for keeping the floor rocking.
  4. Thank you.

Thank you to Peter Durant for his work on upgrading our website.

Thank you to Scott Lindblom for help setting up the new weather station.

A huge thank you to Lyn Herbert for Chairing the NBYCF dinner dance. For almost a year, Lyn put in many hours to make the big event happen.

Also thanks to her staff of Dana Dornbusch, Karyn Campbell, Mimi Gardner and Joan Dalton.

In addition, a galactic shout out to the NBYC Staff who really made it happen. They carried all 154 plates down three flights of stairs and to the tables. Jack, Andrea, Peter, Sherri, Kristen, Brianna, Karen and many others did an incredible job.

Finally, thank you to those who attended and to our many donors. The event exceeded our fundraising goals by 30%. All of the funds raised will go toward the Sailing School program. Among other acquisitions, we are looking for a J 80 to give students a larger, more modern platform with a bowsprit and asymmetrical spinnakers.

    Thank you all.
